Abstract: The Irish state supports a network of multi-partner, cross-disciplinary research centres designed to harness collective expertise and generate high-impact research with real-world applications across industry and society. These centres produce a wide range of outputs, including rich and diverse datasets that span multiple domains and disciplines. Despite their value, these datasets often remain underutilized due to a lack of standardized frameworks for organization, discovery, and reuse. This paper focuses on one such research centre, the I-Form Centre for Advanced Manufacturing. We present a comprehensive taxonomy of its datasets, categorizing them based on type, origin, format, and use cases. Building on this taxonomy, we propose an ontology designed to enhance knowledge discovery, facilitate data mining, and promote interoperability across research themes. This approach aims to maximize the value of existing data assets and support more efficient, data-driven research within and beyond the centre.
